"In Nyköping, I can be spontaneous! As long as I’ve got a bike, I can explore the town centre – and so much more!"

The location is the best thing about Nyköping – not too big, just the right size. That’s how Miranda sums up her hometown.

She’s quick to smile during our chat, and her mum Madelaine, sitting beside her, laughs at her daughter’s spontaneity. Both mother and daughter are proud to call themselves Nyköping locals. They live here together, and both have that special sparkle in their eyes and a real enthusiasm for sharing their favourite places, activities, and restaurants.

We start, naturally, by talking about food. We're sitting at one of Miranda’s favourite spots – Brödernas, where she loves to go with friends for a good burger. The conversation soon turns to the family’s shared passion for sushi. They've even had sushi in Tokyo – the mecca of sushi – and both agree that Nyköping holds its own. “World-class,” they say. Their local favourites are two small sushi spots: Ariu Sushi and Kohiro.

“I also like grabbing sushi down by the harbour when I want something quick, tasty, and affordable for a picnic,” Miranda adds.

Picnics and outdoor barbecues with friends are some of Miranda’s favourite things. She recommends several spots for visitors: the viewpoint by Östra Klockstapeln, the grassy embankments known as Vallarna, and the jetty at Marina Rosenhill on Arnö.

Mum and daughter – Nyköping ambassadors

When Madelaine shares her favourite Nyköping tips, it’s clear she’s a true ambassador for the town – even though she moved here later in life. She’s come to realise that Nyköping is a truly special place.

“Walking along the riverside Å-promenaden is something you can do all year round. Storhusqvarn by the river is magical for me,” she says.
“That walk really captures the heart of the town – you pass both old and new. History is present on every corner, yet the modern-day vibe is there too – and it blends in such a cool way.”

Other places the mother-daughter duo highlight include:
Bike rides from the town centre out to the coast at Ängstugan
Woodland walks around Örstigsnäs skans
– And a trip out to Tallaren, at the very tip where the forest meets the open sea.

“In Nyköping, I can be spontaneous,” Miranda repeats with a grin.
“As long as I’ve got a bike, I can see the whole town – and a lot more!”
